Decanter 3 Phase is typically used to separate
oil, water and solids. In these designs the cake is separated
and removed as in the two-phase design.
Inlet sludge, through feed pipe, will be conducted inside bowl of decanter. Here the separation of the two liquid phases from the solid one thanks to the action of the centrifugal force.
Light liquid phase and heavy liquid one are expelled separately from bowl front part thanks to specific nozzles and level plates that can be regulated on outlet diameter, while solid phase is convoyed from the screw to outlet openings on bowl rear part, where it will be expelled.
Extra devices or baffles are required inside the bowl to separate and discharge separately the two liquids. The lighter liquid will discharge over the weirs already described in the normal way. The heavier liquid needs to decant under a reversed weir into a chamber in the hub and then can flow
